Hi. My name is Christina Doyle. I am a third year at Revelle College. I am a Sociology major and a Biology minor, and I plan to become a Genetic Counselor. I have been active with BSSA since my freshman year. I was a volunteer co-chair during freshman year, the volunteer chair during sophomore year, and vice president this year. I have enjoyed being a part of the BSSA, in all of my positions. I’d like to run for next year’s President. I have enjoyed my leadership position as vice president this year, and I look forward to being able to serve as president next year. BSSA has helped me to learn more about the biology field and it’s many possibilities, as well as to meet some great friends. I’d like to continue to work, and give back to, the group that has given so much to me. E-mail: Christina |

My name is Jennie Dantanavatanawong and I am currently a 3 rd year at John Muir College. I have been involved in BSSA for three year, my first year as a member and participated with the volunteer committee, and for the past two years as the Freshmen Events Chair/Mentor-Mentee Chair. As the Freshmen Events Chair I have organized programs such as “Speed Greeting,” “Beyond the Classroom: Women in Medicine,” “Winter Quarter Study Break,” and “Movie and Ice Cream Sundaes.” Additionally I have organized Mentor/Mentee events that allowed freshmen to meet a new helpful upper classman friend such as “BSSA Mentor/Mentee Kickoff,” (in the game room) and “Jamba Juice Date.” In addition to organizing such events I have also paired up mentors and mentees in order for each to have a successful year. As the BSSA vice chair I feel I would bring three years of experience to BSSA. My experience will help events to be more organized allowing members to fully benefit from the programs put on by BSSA. My creativity will also help to create brand new and exciting programs for all members to be excited about. If I was elected the BSSA Vice Chair I put forth my experience, sense of responsibility, and creativity to make this upcoming year an amazing year for new and returning BSSA members! E-mail: Jennie |
| Hi! My name is Ami Thakor and I am running for Secretary of BSSA. I was drawn to BSSA during my first year at UCSD in which I quickly became involved with the club. Since then I have been Volunteer Co-chair and Membership Chair and enjoyed it very much. This will be my fourth year with BSSA and I want it to be the best! I really want to develop a way to allow our members to be more connected with every event that we plan, and make sure they are given an organized outline of the ongoing events of the club. I really care about BSSA and really like welcoming people into our club and raising our club membership. I want everyone to feel like they are part of a group of people that they truly feel comfortable with. I feel like I can bring my enthusiasm for biology, my hard work, and desire to better this club year after year. I feel like I have the appropriate experience to be Secretary for BSSA, because I am very organized, efficient and dedicated. I look forward to meeting you all! Thank you! E-mail: Ami |
| Hello fellow BSSA members! My name is Vinh Hoang and I am running for the position of Treasurer. I am currently a junior majoring in Human Biology and Political Science. I believe that I am qualified for this position because I have experience working with budgets, both on the academic and the professional level. I truly believe in extending the value of the student budget and I hope to implement cost-saving strategies in order to increase the number of BSSA sponsored activities and events. I also hope to negotiate partnerships with local biotech and pharmaceutical companies in order to help co-sponsor larger events. I am a responsible and organized individual and I also am passionate about the welfare of fellow BSSA members. I certainly look forward to meeting new members and forging new connections. Thank you of your time! E-mail: Vinh |
Freshman Events & Mentor-Mentee Program Chair |

Hi! My name is Kathleen Yip and I am a first-year from Muir College. I am running for the Freshman Events/Mentor-Mentee Chair. Even though I am only a first-year, I have had a ton of great experiences with the BSSA, especially for the freshmen events like the mentor-mentee program (Thanks Jason!). I enjoyed my experience so much that I want to make the experience even better for future freshmen by planning more activities such as a freshmen retreat or more mentor-mentee bonding activities to get freshmen involved at UCSD. On campus, I’ve joined the Admit Day committee volunteers for potential freshmen and I work for the UCSD Guardian. I’ve kept in touch with a ton of high school senior friends and I believe I interact with younger students really well. I’m organized, timely, responsible and, most importantly, fun to be around! That’s exactly what grabs you to join an organization, something that is important for the hundreds of freshmen who will be biology majors next fall. To serve as a link between biology majors all over campus and the Biology Department is an important position to be in, and I believe I am qualified to be your Freshman Events/Mentor-Mentee Chair for 2007-2008! | As a BSSA Active Member, I attended several events that helped me gain a better insight about my career goals and future plans. I want to help others get a similar experience by actively recruiting members and appealing to current members as a Membership Chair. Having been the vice-president of the Pre-Medical Club in high school and part of a Volunteer-Recruitment Team at a local hospital, I already have the social and communication skills necessary to be an excellent Membership Chair in promoting greater membership recruitment and participation. In addition to tabling at events and advertising in the Guardian, I plan to create presentations about BSSA, introducing the club’s past accomplishments and future goals in a fun and interesting way. I would also ask the members of BSSA for their input and take their suggestions to organize events that would be most beneficial for them. As a member myself this year, I would have liked to seen various company and/or hospital representatives talk about volunteer, research, and employment opportunities in the local area. Instead of having students hunting for opportunities for experience and employment, I would organize an event that would allow opportunities to come to the students.-- Sharleen Bhardwaj. Hi, I am Ann Feeley-Summerl and I would like to be your Senior Events Chair. Entering my last year as a Biochem/Cell Bio major this Fall, I am well acquainted with the alternating feelings of excitement and dread that come with planning your post-Bachelor's life- some days it feels like my entire life has become about getting into grad school! I would love to have the opportunity to help other biology students try to find their path through the Beyond the Degree program, which I know that I have found beneficial. There are so many different job, internship, and graduate programs out there, let me help you find your way! E-mail: Ann

| Hello! I am Ellie Choa, a freshman majoring in Human Biology at Eleanor Roosevelt College. I am a very positive and optimistic individual, which is why I am running for Social Events Chair. I understand the importance of community, and am committed to creating a sense of unity among all members. In my experiences in leadership, I have felt first-hand the discomfort that can take place from disorganization, incompetence, and discord. I am dedicated to putting forth 110% into what I do, so that none of the above will take place. My strengths are as follows: creativity (I am very good at developing original ideas that are both raw and entertaining), determination (I stick with something until the job is done), optimism (I count blessings and find silver linings), and affability (I am very easy to get along with, and always willing to make another friend.) My friendliness and sociable nature make me a strong candidate for this position. My resolve and drive assures that, if appointed, I will do my very best. Thank you. E-mail: Ellie |
Transfer Student Representative |
| Hello! My name is Katie Bennett. I am a third-year Physiology & Neuroscience major at Sixth College. I am a transfer student and can directly associate with transfer students at UCSD. I recognize the challenges as a transfer student in a large university including making friends, joining research labs, getting involved, and understanding what UCSD is really about. I want to give transfer students a voice at this large school by running for Transfer Student Representative. I would like to bring transfers and biology enthusiasts together in a comfortable and enjoyable setting while we address these issues and raise solutions for them. I have been an active member of BSSA for a year now and want to help make the association enjoyable for everyone. I look forward to everyone’s input and hope that we can raise our voice in BSSA with new ideas and a fresh spirit. Please submit your votes for Katie Bennett for your Transfer Student Representative. Thank you! E-mail: Katie |

Hi, my name is Prema Hampapur. I am running for the position of volunteer chair for the Biological Sciences Students Association. I currently hold the position of volunteer chair for BSSA and I absolutely adore it. We have made great strides in involving more BSSA members in the tutoring program at Preuss School. My goal for next year would be to increase the number of BSSA tutors. I would also like to add other events such as volunteering at Childrens Hospital and having more beach cleanups. I am very open to suggestions and I would listen to all the ideas members have. I am a friendly person and I like to get to know other biology students. Volunteering and giving back to our community is so very important and I value it highly. Other than being the volunteer chair for BSSA the past year, I have also volunteered at UCSD Hillcrest Hospital as well as Moores Cancer Center. In high school I dedicated over 400 hours at my community hospital. I love volunteering and working with other volunteers so please vote for me, Prema Hampapur. I would love to serve you next year as the volunteer chair of the BSSA. E-mail: Prema |

Hello everyone. My name is David Lee. I am the founding External Relations chair and I am responsible with connecting and networking BSSA with the broad range of resources, companies, and other organizations available to the students here at UC San Diego. My top priorities include organizing the the second annual career expo to provide students a direction in their careers and to alert them of all the possibilities available. Moreover, I have taken the responsibility of alerting students to the web of resources available to students to improve the utilization of some of the great underused programs we have here at UCSD. I hope to cater to those students who lack resources to pursue certain career directions and those who are particularly lost in respect to what caree they would like to pursue after college. There are so many possibilities and my committee and I are proud to do what we can to help. If you are interested in participating in organizing and putting on the career expo, please e-mail me.
